What a Nano Silver Filter Adds to Your RO Plant
Your RO membrane does the main purification work and reduces TDS and dissolved salts. After the membrane, the water still passes through post filters, pipes and the storage tank before it reaches your tap.
The nano silver filter adds antibacterial protection at this final part of the system. That’s why it sits after the membrane rather than before it.
What it does not do:
- It doesn’t reduce TDS. The RO membrane does that.
- It doesn’t remove dirt. The PPF sediment filter does that.
- It doesn’t remove smell. The GAC and CTO carbon filters do that.
Each stage has its own job, and the nano silver cartridge’s job is antibacterial protection.
Where the Nano Silver Cartridge Fits
The nano silver cartridge is a post filter and always goes after the RO membrane. It’s an inline cartridge that connects in the water line rather than sitting in a 10 inch housing.
The stages after the membrane are flexible and can be chosen according to your water and what you need:
- 7 stage RO plants usually include nano silver as one of the post filters.
- 8 stage RO plants usually use it alongside the post carbon, mineral and alkaline cartridges.
- 6 stage RO plants can have it fitted in place of, or as well as, another post filter.
The first four stages stay the same in every plant: PPF, GAC, CTO, then the RO membrane.

When to Replace Your Nano Silver Cartridge
Like every cartridge after the RO membrane, the nano silver cartridge lasts one year at most. An old cartridge can’t give the protection it was fitted for, so change it on time even if water still flows through it normally.
The easiest way is to change it together with your other post filters and membrane once a year. The 7 stage RO filter replacement deal and the 8 stage RO filter replacement deal both include the nano silver cartridge with every other filter, and cost less than buying the items separately.
Your pre-filters need much more frequent changes. From our field experience, change the PPF sediment filter every 15–30 days and the GAC and CTO every 3 months at most.
