6mm or 10mm – Which Pipe Goes Where?
Every home RO plant in Pakistan uses two standard pipe sizes:

How to Read Connector Sizes
Connector sizes such as ½ × 6mm or ¼ × 10mm give two measurements:
- The first number is the thread size, in inches, that screws into the housing, pump or other part.
- The second number is the pipe size, in mm, that pushes into the other end.
Match both to your plant.

Elbows and Tees
Elbows turn the pipe around corners:
- Plain 6 × 6 elbow
- Front elbows in 6mm and 10mm
- Pump elbow 6mm
- Membrane feed elbow 6mm
Tees split one line into two:
- Plain tees in 6mm, 10mm and 10 × 10 × 6
- Middle tees in 6mm, 6 × 10 × 6 and 10 × 6 × 10
- Side tee 6mm
- Y tees in 6 × 6 × 6 and 10mm
Valves
- Ball valves: the 6mm SS, 10mm SS and 6mm PVC ball valves open and shut a line by hand.
- Non-return valves (6mm and 10mm): these let water flow one way only and stop it flowing back. Options include the NR elbow 6mm, NR socket 6mm and NR tank valve 6mm.
- Tank valves (6mm, 10mm and ¾ × 10mm): these open and close the storage tank connection.
- Flush valves (6mm and 10mm): these are used to flush the membrane.
- 4-way auto shut-off valve 6mm: this stops raw water entering the plant when the tank is full.
Pressure Switches
- Low pressure switch 6mm: stops the pump when the water supply drops, so the pump never runs dry. Running dry is the most common reason RO pumps fail.
- High pressure switch 6mm: stops the pump once the storage tank is full.

Why Domestic Fittings Leak or Break
From our counter and service experience:
- Mishandling or courier damage. Small plastic fittings can crack if dropped or packed loosely. Check each fitting before installing it.
- Over pressure. Domestic fittings are made for domestic plant pressure. Too much pressure causes leaks.
- Wrong fitting. A pipe not cut straight, not pushed fully into the fitting, or the wrong size used will leak slowly.
- Weather and age. Heat, direct sunlight and years of use make plastic brittle. Keep the RO plant in a shaded place.
- Chemicals in raw water. Tap water often carries chemicals that slowly weaken plastic fittings, especially on the raw water side.
Tips for a Leak-Free Fitting
- Cut the pipe straight and clean, not at an angle.
- Push the pipe fully into the fitting until it stops.
- Use 10mm only from the tap to the PPF housing, and 6mm everywhere else.
- Don’t overtighten threaded connectors.
- Replace old, discoloured or cracked fittings during filter service.
