The PPF is our 180 gram PPF filter, the top weight grade of 10 inch PPF on the market. The membrane is the Axtron 100 GPD RO membrane. The final stage is the Axtron Nano Silver cartridge.
What the Nano Silver Stage Adds
A 6 stage RO plant ends with the mineral cartridge. A 7 stage plant adds one more step: the Nano Silver cartridge. It is a post filter made with nano silver media, which has an antibacterial effect. It sits last in the line, after the membrane and the other post filters, so it is the final protection before water reaches your glass.
Like every cartridge that comes after the membrane, the Nano Silver cartridge should be changed once a year at most. An old cartridge can't protect your water, which is why it's included in this yearly set.
Water Conditions in Multan, Lahore, Bahawalpur and Karachi
Drinking water quality varies a lot from city to city and even from street to street, depending on whether you use a water supply line, a boring or a tank. Published testing gives a clear picture of the main problems:
- Across Pakistan: in the PCRWR's 2025 national water quality monitoring, 68% of 2,205 samples from 70 cities failed drinking water standards. More than half of the failed samples had bacterial (microbial) contamination.
- Multan: arsenic in groundwater is a serious concern. Studies in Multan have found arsenic above the WHO guideline in many groundwater samples, and experts note that levels vary by area and boring depth (APP report, September 2026). An earlier PCRWR study, reported in 2021, found 94% of sampled underground water in Multan unsafe for drinking.
- Lahore: in the 2025 PCRWR survey, 62% of Lahore's samples were safe, so more than a third were not.
- Bahawalpur: the PCRWR study reported in 2021 found 76% of sampled underground water in Bahawalpur unsafe for drinking.
- Karachi: in the 2025 PCRWR survey, 91% of Karachi's samples were unsafe.
What this means for your RO plant: each stage handles a different problem. The PPF stops dirt and rust, the GAC and CTO remove smell, the RO membrane reduces TDS and dissolved salts, and the Nano Silver stage adds antibacterial protection at the end. That protection only works while the cartridges are fresh. If your home runs on boring water, get it tested at a water testing lab so you know exactly what you're dealing with.
Why Change All Filters After One Year
With standard water and normal daily use, every cartridge that comes after the membrane (post carbon, mineral and Nano Silver) and the RO membrane itself should be changed after one year at most. By then, your RO plant usually shows signs like these:
- Pure water comes out slower than before
- The taste of the water has changed
- The plant runs longer to fill the tank
Changing all seven together refreshes the whole system. Once the new membrane and filters are fitted, the plant gives the same water flow as when it was new.
Your Full Filter Change Schedule
This deal is your once-a-year full change. Between those yearly changes, the pre-filters need more frequent attention. Based on our field experience:

About Membrane Warranty
Axtron gives no warranty on any RO membrane, including the one in this set. Membrane life depends on your water quality and how the plant is used. Three things shorten it:
- Pre-filters not changed on time
- Very high salt (TDS) in the feed water
- Running the plant much longer each day than normal home use
With standard water and on-time pre-filter changes, a membrane should give you about a year of service.
