Semi Commercial Filters
Slim 20 Inch Filter Cartridges in Pakistan
These are slim 20-inch cartridges — the narrow ones, not the thick jumbo type.
Both are 20 inches long. Slim is narrow, jumbo is wide, and they do not fit each other’s housings. If your filter housing is tall but narrow, slim is what you need. That is what this page covers.
Slim cartridges fit both semi commercial water filters and semi commercial RO plants, because both use the same slim housings. Shops, restaurants, masajid, hostels, clinics and small factories.
Axtron Pakistan has supplied water treatment equipment across the country since 2005.

Slim or Jumbo? Know the Difference Before You Order
This is the question our shop staff ask every customer who walks in for 20-inch cartridges, and it is the single most common ordering mistake in this size.
Both are 20 inches long. The width is what separates them.
Slim — the cartridges on this page. Narrow body, roughly the same diameter as a standard 10-inch cartridge, just twice the length. Around 2.5 inches across. Used in semi commercial water filters and in RO plants from 200 GPD up to 1200 GPD.
Jumbo (Big Blue) — commercial filters. Thick body, roughly 4.5 inches across. Used in whole-house systems and commercial plants.
They do not interchange. A slim cartridge sits loose in a jumbo housing and water bypasses it completely. A jumbo cartridge will not go into a slim housing at all.
How to check in ten seconds. Look at your filter housing, not the cartridge. If it is tall and narrow — the kind you can close your hand around — it is slim. If it is a thick blue barrel you need two hands for, it is jumbo. Still unsure? Send us a photo on WhatsApp before you order and we will confirm.
Which Cartridge Does What
PPF Sediment (Slim). Stage one. Removes sand, silt, dirt and rust before anything reaches the stages behind it. The cartridge that protects your carbon and your membrane.
PPY Sediment (Slim). Polypropylene yarn — a wound cartridge rather than melt-blown. Handles heavy sediment loads well and holds its shape under pressure.
GAC / UDF (Slim). Granular activated carbon. UDF and GAC are the same cartridge — UDF simply stands for Up-flow Dual Filtration, another name for the granular carbon stage. If your system diagram says UDF, you need a GAC cartridge. Handles chlorine, chemical residue and odour at high flow.
CTO Carbon Block (Slim). Compressed activated carbon. Polishes taste and traps finer particles the earlier stages missed.
Pleated / Absolute (Slim). Folded media with far more surface area than a spun PPF of the same size. Holds much more dirt before restricting flow.
Cation Resin (Slim). Softening media in cartridge form. Reduces hardness and scaling where a full softener plant would be more than the premises needs.
Spun PPF or Pleated?
Both are sediment filters in a slim body. The difference is construction and how they behave when the water is dirty.
Spun PPF — melt-blown polypropylene. Cheaper and the standard choice. Loads from the outside in, so flow drops gradually as it fills with sediment.
Pleated (Absolute) — folded media, much greater surface area in the same slim body. Holds considerably more sediment before flow restricts, which means longer intervals between changes.
When pleated is the cheaper option. If you are replacing a spun PPF every two weeks because your water is heavily silted, a pleated cartridge at higher cost that runs four times as long works out cheaper over a year — and your system spends less of its life running through a half-blocked filter.
On clean municipal supply, spun PPF is the sensible choice. Pleated there is overspending.
Micron Ratings in Slim Cartridges
5 Micron — the standard. Catches ordinary sediment and lasts longest before clogging.
1 Micron — finer. Catches what a 5 micron passes through, but loads up faster.
0.3 and 0.2 Micron — the finest we stock in slim. Maximum protection for the membrane behind them, shortest working life.
On a business premises, finer is not automatically better. A 0.2 micron slim cartridge on heavily silted water can block within days, and a blocked cartridge protects nothing. Most commercial customers get better results from a 5 micron changed on schedule.
When to Replace
Replacement intervals printed on cartridge packaging are usually three to six months. That is not what we see in Pakistani water, and on a shop or restaurant running all day the gap is wider still.
PPF sediment cartridges — 15 to 30 days. Closer to 15 on heavily silted water. On a system running continuously, expect the shorter end.
Check the housing, not the calendar. When the sediment cartridge looks fully dirty, change it immediately. A blocked PPF stops protecting the carbon and membrane behind it, and those cost many times more to replace.
GAC, UDF and CTO carbon cartridges — 3 months maximum. Once exhausted, carbon can start releasing what it collected back into the water. That is why an overdue carbon cartridge causes a smell.
Put it on a schedule. In a shop, restaurant or masjid, cartridge changes get forgotten until the water tastes wrong or the flow drops. A standing reminder costs nothing and saves membranes.
If the system has been standing unused — a long closure, a seasonal shutdown — replace the cartridges before restarting. Water left sitting in the housings goes stagnant and carries that smell into everything drawn afterwards. Cartridges left dry stop filtering properly even though they look normal.
Not Sure What You Need?
Most customers who come to our shop cannot name the cartridge, and that is completely normal. What we ask is simple:
Do you have a water filter or an RO plant? Both use slim cartridges, but the stages differ.
Is your housing slim or jumbo — narrow or thick? This decides everything. Slim cartridges are on this page; jumbo is here.
How many housings does your system have? That tells us how many stages and which cartridges go in which position.
Send us a photo of your system on WhatsApp and we will tell you exactly what to order. It takes us a minute and saves you buying the wrong size.
Cartridges for Any Slim System
Our cartridges use standard 20-inch slim fittings, which covers most semi commercial water filters and RO plants in Pakistan whichever brand you bought. We supply cartridges for systems we did not install.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a slim 20 inch filter cartridge?
A narrow 20-inch cartridge, roughly 2.5 inches across — the same diameter as a standard 10-inch cartridge but twice the length. Used in semi commercial water filters and RO plants.
What is the difference between slim and jumbo cartridges?
Both are 20 inches long. Slim is narrow, jumbo is thick — around 4.5 inches across. They do not interchange. A slim cartridge in a jumbo housing lets water bypass it entirely.
How do I know if my system takes slim or jumbo?
Look at the housing. Narrow enough to close your hand around means slim. A thick blue barrel means jumbo. Send us a photo if you are unsure.
Will slim cartridges fit both my water filter and my RO plant?
Yes, if both use slim housings. The same cartridge serves either — what changes is which cartridges go in which stage.
What is a UDF filter?
UDF and GAC are the same cartridge — granular activated carbon. If your system labels the stage UDF, order a GAC cartridge.
What is the difference between spun PPF and pleated?
Spun is melt-blown polypropylene, cheaper and standard. Pleated has far more surface area, holds more dirt, and lasts longer between changes. Pleated pays for itself on heavily silted water and is unnecessary on clean supply.
How often should I change a slim 20 inch PPF?
Every 15 to 30 days depending on your water and how hard the system runs. On a commercial premises running all day, expect the shorter end. Judge by the housing, not the date.
Which micron rating should I choose?
5 micron for most situations. Finer ratings give better membrane protection but block faster — on dirty water a 0.2 micron can clog within days.
Why does my filtered water smell?
Usually an exhausted carbon cartridge. If the system has been standing unused, water in the housings may also have gone stagnant. Both need replacing.
My water flow has dropped. What should I check first?
The sediment cartridge, always. It is the cheapest part and the most common cause. Replace it before looking at the membrane or pump.
Do you supply slim cartridges for other brands?
Yes. Standard 20-inch slim fittings cover most systems sold in Pakistan. Send a photo if you are unsure which you need.
