The Axtron Gold 1 Micron is a PPF sediment filter for the first stage of your water filter or RO plant. It's made from polypropylene and stops dust, rust, sand and mud before they reach the carbon cartridges and the RO membrane. At 130 grams, it's the most economical cartridge in the Axtron PPF range, and it fits every standard 10 inch housing. Choosing Between Axtron PPF Filters

Axtron sells three 10 inch PPF filters. They differ in two ways: how fine they filter (micron rating) and how much material they hold (weight).

Two simple rules help you choose:

• Lower micron = finer cleaning. A 0.3 micron filter catches smaller particles than a 1 micron filter.
• More weight = more filter material. A heavier cartridge holds more dirt before it chokes, so it works for more days.

If your water is fairly clean and you change your filters on time, the 1 micron Gold does the job at the lowest cost. For finer cleaning or dirtier water, choose the Axtron Gold 0.3 micron (160 gram) or the Axtron 0.3 micron (180 gram).

What a 1 Micron Filter Removes

The 1 micron Gold traps the dirt that comes through most household supplies:

• Dust and dirt
• Rust from pipes and water tanks
• Sand and mud (silt)

It handles dirt only. The other stages of your system take care of the rest:

• Smell and taste: GAC and CTO carbon cartridges
• Bacteria: a UF membrane
• TDS and salts: the RO membrane

Where It Fits

The PPF filter always goes in the first stage. It fits every standard 10 inch housing in domestic water filters and RO plants.

In a 3-stage water filter, there are two common setups:

• PPF + GAC + CTO: for clear water with taste or smell problems
• PPF + PPF + CTO: for water with heavy mud or rust. The second PPF in stage 2 adds extra cleaning.

A 10 inch domestic water filter suits a home of 5–8 people.

When to Change It

From our field experience, a PPF filter needs changing every 15–30 days. A 130 gram cartridge holds less material than the heavier grades, so with dirty water expect to change it nearer the 15 day mark.

Don't go by the calendar alone. Look at the cartridge. When it has turned fully brown or dark, it's done. A transparent 10 inch housing lets you check without opening anything. Changing the PPF on time protects every stage after it.

Two more points from our service team:

• If your filter has been off for a long time, replace all cartridges before using it again. Standing water goes stale in the housings, and empty housings dry the cartridges out.
• For non-electric water filters, use normal overhead tank pressure. Never connect the filter directly to a motor or pump line.
