The Classic Pure Taiwan CTO is a 10 inch activated carbon block cartridge made in Taiwan. It removes smell from water and improves its taste, and in an RO plant it’s the last pre-filter before the membrane, protecting it before water enters. It fits every standard 10 inch water filter and RO plant housing. Classic Pure is Axtron’s second brand. What a CTO Filter Does
CTO is a carbon block: activated carbon pressed into a solid block. Its jobs:
- Removes smell from the water
- Improves taste
- Protects the RO membrane as the last pre-filter
What it doesn’t do:
- It doesn’t stop dust, rust, sand or mud. The PPF sediment filter does that.
- It doesn’t reduce TDS. The RO membrane does that.
Label warning: Do not use where the water is microbiologically unsafe, or with water of unknown quality, without adequate disinfection before or after the unit.

Where It Fits
The CTO goes in the 3rd stage of a 3-stage water filter or RO plant:
- PPF + GAC + CTO: for clear water with taste or smell problems
- PPF + PPF + CTO: for water with heavy mud or rust. Here the CTO is the only carbon stage, so changing it on time matters even more.

When to Change a CTO Filter
From our field experience with water in Pakistan, change a CTO filter every 3 months at most. After that, the carbon stops working and causes smell in the water, one of the most common complaints we see.
Change the GAC and CTO together every 3 months, and the PPF every 15–30 days.
From our service team:
- Filter not used for a while? Replace all cartridges before switching it back on. Standing water goes stale in the housings, and empty housings dry the cartridges out.
- Non-electric water filters: use normal overhead tank pressure. Never connect directly to a motor or pump line.
